Not less than 16 people were killed when a petrol tanker exploded on Wednesday in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to reports, the petrol tanker was passing through the town when it lost control, rammed into residential buildings and killed exploded.
About 30 houses were burnt down in the explosion.
The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle.
The Governor of the state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed his sadness at the unfortunate development.
The Governor’s reaction was contained in a statement signed by his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye.

“He sends his heartfelt condolences to the affected families. He urges them to take heart and remain calm as believers. He has also directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to quickly move in to determine the material loss.
“He also commends the Kwara state Fire Service and other responders for their efforts which helped to curtail the raging inferno and minimised the loss. Once again, he condoles with the victims and their families on this very sad incident, and prays to God Almighty to repose the souls of the deceased,” the statement read.
