Lawmaker Says Banning Use of Generator is Necessary

Despite the public uproar that greeted the introduction of the bill seeking to ban the importation and use of generator sets in Nigeria, a Member of House of Representative representing Obafemi Owode and Odeda, Olumide Osoba has said the move is necessary following the high number of generator set being used in the country.

Osoba said this during a chat with newsmen after empowering 120 members of his constituency with generator motorcycles, sewing machines and grinding machines.

Speaking further, he said the use of generator sets is not peculiar to Nigeria alone but the general usage is posing a global threat, especially in the wake of global warming.

He said it is necessary for Nigeria to reduce the number of generator being used in the country in order not to follow the emission level set by the World Health Organization.

Speaking on the empowerment program, the lawmaker said the program is his own way of giving back to his people that supported him during the election period in the state.

He added that the aim of the items given is to ensure his people are independent.

It should be recalled that Senator Muhammed from Niger state had introduced a bill seeking to ban the importation, sales and use of generator sets in Nigeria.

The bill has since passed the first reading.
